The Nevis Dramatic and Cultural Society created Culturama in 1974. The need arose to preserve and stimulate interest in local customs, music and folk art. Culturama runs from late July to early August to includes pageantries, Mr. Kool, aquatic sports, calypso shows, a fruit festival, a food fair and J’ouvert. The festival is a celebration of the most significant milestone the emancipation of slavery.
