The Regional Data Governance Council (RDGC), an output of the Data for Decision Making project, Sub-Component 3.1, was formed on October 11, 2023, and is responsible for directing, developing and implementing the OECS Regional Strategy for the Development of Statistics (RSDS).

The RDGC is expected to introduce a culture of academic rigor in statistical innovations while remaining mindful of the local context and the need for local credibility and promoting harmonization in the OECS region.

The RDGC’s objectives are to:

  1. Identify the short-term and long-term priorities for the OECS RSDS, establish milestones, monitor progress, and propose adjustments as required;
  2. Harmonize statistical methodologies, concepts, and definitions, with due consideration for the diversity of OECS member countries when implementing regional and international standards and best practices;
  3. Keep relevant constituents and stakeholders up to date on the implementation status by communicating and reporting on progress, issues, and successes;
  4. Advocate for investment in statistics on behalf of the Member States and promote statistical cooperation among Member States;
  5. Coordinate and align donor support for statistical development activities in the OECS Region;
  6. Support Member States in the design of their respective national annual work programme for the development of statistics, ensuring consistency with the OECS RSDS generally, but also specifically that the work programme is aligned with national development plans;
  7. Provide advice to Member States on current and emerging issues related to statistics; and
  8. Review and propose revisions of the OECS RSDS as needed over time.
