Since the volcanic activity has devastated most of the southern forests and mountains, the Centre Hills have become the last remaining habitat for numerous threatened species. These include the Montserrat oriole (the National Bird), “mountain chicken” frog, galliwasp lizard, and the endemic Montserrat orchid (the National Flower). The Centre Hills Trail network is the most popular trail network on the island.  It is advisable to use a local guide to book a hike.
