Short Overview

Soufriere Hills is currently the only and longest-active volcano in the Caribbean. The last eruption occurred on July 18th, 1995 which destroyed the island’s capital city, Plymouth. Its last major eruption, prior to the current one, is thought to have been about 400 years ago. The volcano is monitored on a daily basis by scientists at the Montserrat Volcano Observatory. To view the destruction of Plymouth, tours are available by booking with a local tour guide or operator.
