Forts and Mills St. Vincent and the Grenadines: Fort Charlotte

Short Overview

Located on Berkshire Hill, Edinboro, construction of the fort began in 1763 when the British recovered St. Vincent.  It was finally completed and named after Queen Charlotte, wife of King George III in 1806. The Fort is perched at 600 feet above the sea, giving a spectacular view across Kingstown and the Grenadines. The Fort was a significant fortification that housed around 600 troops and a battery of over 30 canons. Interestingly unlike most forts in the Caribbean, the cannons are pointed inland to defend against the Caribs
