Christmas Sports was a way for slaves to showcase their traditions in song and dance while exacting revenge on the Plantocracy through mockery. The evolution of carnival started in 1957 while 1971 it was nationalised. Jamband music has replaced the string bands, drums and much of the folk performances but calypso, moko jumbies, the bull, masqueraders and street revelry have stood strong.
