Raejean Montoute is a 20 year young lady from the beautiful community of Gros Islet. She graduated from the Sir Arthur Lewis community College in 2015 with an Associate’s Degree in Computer Systems Engineering and describes herself as a very tech-savy individual who enjoys volunteering, debating, freelance writing, sports and music. She also possesses a keen interest in politics, government, global history, human behaviour and society.
Raejean Montoute is currently 1st Vice President of the Gros Islet Youth Development Council (GYDC); Public Relations Officer of Northern United All Stars; Manager of Northern Arrows Netball Team and Vice President of the Gros Islet Cultural Development Committee.
Ms. Montoute has over the years has demonstrated profound interest in youth development activities. She has spearheaded community initiatives example hosting a job seminar for youth in community and revamping a community netball team. Ms. Montoute has also donated much of her time to speaking to young individuals on various topics i.e. motivational speech and subject lecturers at the Centre for Adolescence Remedial Education (CARE).
Raejean Montoute is most passionate about social development. She deeply believes that the true measure of a successful society is the level of the quality of life of the people within the society. She believes that communities need to be all-rounded economically and socially. She is of the opinion that people with skills that can be used to develop a community should utilize their skills to its full intent, no matter how small or large, we need people in our society to volunteer their time and expertise to develop the community, from a contribution as small as speaking to the youth about how to deal with peer pressure or a large contribution as providing monetary donations, any positive contribution to your society not only develops you as a person but also develops your community and your society at large.
Raejean Montoute said she wanted to be involved in the OECS YES Internship Program because, one the OECS YES project contributes to the development of a regional youth mandate which objectives are to aid young people and two this internship would have been a great opportunity to enhance and learn skills on digital marketing.
She describes her experience on the internship as a very interesting one. She learnt how to utilize different online tools to market social media posts and different techniques and tactics to improve existing marketing strategies. She states that “All in all it was a great experience”.
