Kimisha Mathurin - Developer of Minds

Kimisha Mathurin is an enthusiastic and hardworking teacher who endeavours to inspire and touch the lives of her students on a daily basis. Teaching was not her first choice of a career after she acquired a Bsc. in Economics and International Relations. However, she embraced the opportunity and has been thankful for such a calling.

Being an Economics major Kimisha always been intrigued by the development of small island states.

Witnessing economic issues first hand in St Lucia, Kimisha believes that Regional Integration is the answer for islands in the Caribbean because it allows us to not only have a bigger voice in the larger world markets, but most importantly, our very survival is dependent upon it. She believes there is a need to integrate on many levels and that through integration we can exchange ideas, technology, skilled persons and resources.

Learning about the opportunity of the OECS Digital Internship she wanted to help make the youth aware of the plans the OECS had for them. The OECS YES program in itself gave her hope that there are regional organizations that are constantly working and care about the development of the youth. Kimisha stat that “ I have seen many students and young people lose hope because they think that they have been forgotten. The OECS has started something amazing and I wanted to represent that kind of movement. “

When asked about the internship program experience Kimisha said the following:

“My experience was amazing! It was exactly what I expected and more. I learned new skills such as a bit of graphic designing and enhancing my writing skills. For the skills I already possessed but needed some sharpening such as time management and organizing, I look back and see that there were some improvements. Along this journey, I met some hardworking artists and persons who are working on achieving their dreams. I understood the challenges they faced in getting their work out there for the Caribbean and world to see. Their determination and hard work has inspired me as a person. I am forever grateful that I was selected to do this internship. I must add that I also worked with a good team of individuals who were also selected to do this internship program. This experience is one that will never be forgotten.”
